Creative Exchange ~ tradition

A new week for creativity over at Lisa's Creative Exchange.
This week I'm lacking in ideias and so I decided to share a recipe for boiled chestnuts. Around October and November the smell of roasted chestnuts fill the air in the city and tradition says we should eat chestnuts and drink jeropiga, (which is a sorts of sweet dessert wine) especcially on the 1st of November and ten days later as a celebration of São Martinho's Summer.
Have I ever mentioned that I love chestnuts? Last weekend I did boiled chestnuts, I wash them and then give them a cut, in a pot I put them with enough water to cover all of the chestnuts, a pinch of salt and a tea spoon of fennel and let them boil. Pretty easy!
If you know a way to use or cook chestnuts, do share it with me please! Thank you!

Obrigado!

These are one of my favorite things during this time of year. I so love them, especially while they are still very, very warm. This also brings back a wonderful memory...One time, so many years ago now, my Mom made them as she always did. She did them in the oven, and at the time was in a hurry. She forgot to put a cut in them. Do I need to tell you what happened after about 20 minutes? We were still finding pieces on the ceiling of the kitchen months later.

Thank you for the wonderful memory, and for sharing this today at The Creative Exchange.

Have a wonderful day.

@ Lisa, your story reminded me of that time I decided I was old enough to make popcorns all by myself... I was 'cause I didn't get burned but I did forget to put the lid on the pot... popcorns do fly everywhere!!

@ Justine, it sounds and tastes delicious ;)

Hi Kala!
The chestnuts in the photo are not raosted but boiled.
You should try both roasted and boiled, I'm still trying to decide which ones I like the most!
